Gary Neville: This Man United starlet was fantastic, he can be proud
The Manchester United legend was impressed with Axel Tuanzebe in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon
Gary Neville said that Axel Tuanzebe should be proud of his performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
Jose Mourinho started the 18-year-old at right-back in the Manchester United side in the absence of Ecuador international Antonio Valencia.
Tuanzebe was tasked with marking Arsenal’s talismanic Alexis Sanchez in the Premier League fixture at the Emirates Stadium.
The Chile international didn’t have big impact on the top-four clash as Tuanzebe produced a solid performance at Manchester United’s bitter rivals.
Mourinho’s side produced a disappointing display at The Emirates after goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck sealed three points for the hosts.
Speaking to the Gary Neville podcast about the teenager’s first Premier League appearance of the 2016-17 season, Neville said:
“I thought he was very good. I’m always nervous for any young player coming through. You’ve always got to look after any young kid, especially when he comes into a team.
“[Sunday] was tough, and you think that Tuanzebe was up against Alexis Sanchez, who is a world-class player, at a difficult stadium to play at.
“He was fantastic from the first to the 90th minute. He can be proud.”
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of Liverpool in third spot.
The Red Devils will take on La Liga side Celta Vigo in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.
