Ander Herrera reveals that he was delighted to learn that many Manchester United fans would like to see him made captain
Ander Herrera has revealed that he was delighted to learn that many Manchester United fans would like to see him appointed as the club’s next captain.
The Spanish midfielder has earned plenty of praise for his performances for Manchester United this season after becoming a regular fixture in Jose Mourinho’s side in recent weeks.
Herrera was particularly impressive during Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea last month, as he successfully kept Eden Hazard at bay.
A recent poll of Football FanCast’s United readers revealed that as many as 93 per cent of Red Devils fans would like to see Herrera named as the club’s next captain.
And Herrera has admitted his delight at hearing about the praise from Manchester United’s fans.
Herrera told Onda Cero: “I’m honoured, very touched and surprised.
“I didn’t expect it. We don’t know what is going to happen with Rooney but in any case, I don’t see this [captaincy] happening soon.
“There are other players that have been longer at the club and that has to be respected. United have had great captains.”
Herrera will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final first leg in Spain on Thursday night.
