Michael Owen makes claim about Ander Herrera at Man United
Michael Owen has been very impressed by Ander Herrera's development into a key Manchester United player this season
Michael Owen has claimed that Ander Herrera has developed into one of Jose Mourinho’s favourite players at Manchester United after the Portuguese coach tinkered with his midfield combinations earlier in the season.
Herrera has established himself as a regular fixture in the Manchester United side this season and has earned plenty of praise for his performances for the Red Devils.
The Spaniard has scored one goal and made six assists in 28 Premier League games for the Red Devils this season.
He was unable to prevent Manchester United from slipping to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Swansea City at Old Trafford at the weekend.
However, former Manchester United striker Owen is a keen admirer of Herrera and has praised the 27-year-old for the impact he has had at Old Trafford this season.
Speaking on BT Sport, Owen said: “I think at the start of the season when Paul Pogba was struggling to find a bit of form, Mourinho tried changing so many players around to get the best out of Pogba and it appears that Herrera is one of those players he likes playing in there.
“It was that fiddling around with the midfield which actually caused him to become one of his favourites and now he’s virtually a regular every week.”
Herrera will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Europa League action with a crunch semi-final first-leg clash against Celta Vigo on Thursday night.
