Manager sends message to Jose Mourinho about Man United star
Remi Garde believes Jose Mourinho needs to push Manchester United striker Anthony Martial even more
Remi Garde has offered Jose Mourinho advice on how to get the best out of Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
The Red Devils boss has grown increasingly frustrated with Martial’s performances throughout the 2016-17 season following Mourinho’s appointment back in May.
Martial scored 11 times in 49 games in all competitions in the 2015-16 campaign under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal.
The 21-year-old moved to Manchester United in a 36m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco back in the 2015 summer transfer window to become the world’s most-expensive teenager.
The France international has scored four times and has made five assists in 21 appearances in the Premier League this term.
Garde was in charge at Lyon when Martial broke through the ranks at the Ligue 1 club before his move to Monaco in the 2013 summer transfer window.
And the former Aston Villa boss offered Mourinho some advice about the France striker.
“I see more someone who needs to be challenged. He has always been like that,” Garde told The Guardian.
“He is very gifted but he needs to be pushed. I see that his current manager is sometimes pushing him to deliver more. I am not surprised about that.”
Martial has been linked with a return to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2016-17 season.
