Bastian Schweinsteiger’s message for Man United fans
Bastian Schweinsteiger lifts the lid on his experience at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho this saeson
Bastian Schweinsteiger believes that he won Jose Mourinho over at Manchester United after initially being frozen out at Old Trafford.
The World Cup winning German struggled to hold down a regular spot early in the season following Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford.
Indeed, Schweinsteiger did not even start a single Premier League game for Manchester United this season after being brought to the club under Louis van Gaal.
The veteran midfielder did make a handful of appearances later in the season but Schweinsteiger opted to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window to join MLS side Chicago Fire.
And the midfielder has lifted the lid on how his final few months at Manchester United unfolded.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Schweinsteiger said: “I had a talk with him and he had an opinion, maybe it was not made by himself. [The decision not to play me] was maybe made by someone else without him so I think after I trained and I played and you could see me and how I behave as a professional and he has a different opinion, so it was a little bit unfortunate.
“I think [it would be different] if we would have met in a different situation.”
Manchester United are hoping to win the Europa League this season and will take on Ajax in the final in Stockholm on May 24 as they look to secure qualification for next term’s Champions League.
