The Manchester United star has earned a reputation as one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
De Gea has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United team under Jose Mourinho this season and has helped the Red Devils win the EFL Cup this term.
The Spanish shot stopper will be hoping to feature ahead of Sergio Romero in next week’s Europa League final in Stockholm against Ajax.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past and he came close to joining the Spanish side back in 2015 before the deal fell through at the final hour.
Carragher was asked on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football who his pick of the goalkeepers in the Premier League this season was.
And the Liverpool legend was emphatic in his response, saying: “I’ve gone for De Gea [in my team of the season].
“I still think he’s the best in the Premier League. He’s probably the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s close with him and Manuel Neuer. I think he’s probably better.”
