Jose Mourinho has insisted that Manchester United will do everything they can to keep David De Gea at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

The Spanish goalkeeper was left out for the Red Devils for the goalless draw with Southampton on Wednesday night as Mourinho opted to give Sergio Romero some more game-time ahead of next week’s Europa League final.

De Gea has been relentlessly linked with a move to Real Madrid in the forthcoming summer transfer window in recent weeks.

However, Mourinho has insisted that the Red Devils will do everything they can to keep hold of the Spaniard and that he is fully expecting him to report for pre-season training.

Asked when Manchester United fans can expect to see De Gea in a Red Devils shirt again, Mourinho told Sky Sports on Wednesday night: “David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles.

“David is the top in the world and obviously we want to keep him.”
