Rio Ferdinand: This Man United star will be a huge miss
The Manchester United legend admits Eric Bailly will be a huge miss for Jose Mourinho in the Europa League final
Rio Ferdinand says Eric Bailly will be a huge miss for the Europa League final against Ajax.
The Ivory Coast international was sent off in the 86th minute of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final.
The summer signing received a straight red card following a clash with Celta Vigo goal-scorer Facundo Roncaglia to rule the African defender out of the showpiece in Stockholm on Wednesday 24 May.
Bailly has been Manchester United’s most-consistent defender in a difficult first campaign for Jose Mourinho at the 13-time Premier League winners.
The former Villarreal defender miss out on a Europa League final appearance last term after the La Liga side lost to Manchester United’s bitter rivals Liverpool in the last four.
Bailly’s red card means the popular centre-half will have to sit out their clash against Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final.
Speaking to BT Sport about Bailly’s impact in his first season at Old Trafford, the former Manchester United defender said:
“He’s been their best defender this year. He’s always out there and doesn’t pick up many injuries. He’s going to be a big miss.”
Bailly moved to Manchester United from Villarreal in the 2016 summer transfer window.
