Gary Neville sends Man United warning to Jose Mourinho
The Manchester United legend warns Jose Mourinho that the Red Devils have the responsibility to entertain their supporters
Gary Neville has warned Jose Mourinho that Manchester United have a responsibility to entertain their supporters.
The Red Devils lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon to leave their top-four hopes in doubt.
Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck scored twice in the second half to secure three points for Arsene Wenger’s side in north London.
Manchester United have failed to score a goal against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City on the road in the Premier League this term.
The 20-time English champions have only managed to score 51 times in 35 games in the 2016-17 season – 24 goals less than leaders Chelsea.
Former Manchester United defender Neville wants to see Mourinho’s side produce more entertaining football under Mourinho.
“They have to entertain at Manchester United, but at the moment you can forgive it because he doesn’t have full confidence in his squad,” Neville told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor back in May 2016 following a disappointing fifth-placed finish last term.
Manchester United spent £150m on new signings in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils will take on Celta Vigo in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night after a 1-0 win in Spain.
