Jose Mourinho predicts where Man United will finish
The Manchester United manager appears to rule out a top-four finish
Jose Mourinho has played down the chances of Manchester United finishing in the top four this season.
The Red Devils were handed a boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Southampton at Anfield.
Manchester United had the chance to move to within a point of Jurgen Klopp’s side despite having played a game less if Mourinho’s men could beat Arsenal in north London.
However, Arsenal duo Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck scored second-half goals to help the north London side to secure three points, dealing a blow to Manchester United’s top-four hopes.
The Red Devils remained in fifth place and four points adrift of Liverpool with three games to go in their season following their third game without a victory in the Premier League.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website about the 2-0 loss in the context of the top-four race, Mourinho said:
“I think with the last result against Swansea and the defeat today we have to be pragmatic and see it is difficult [to finish in the top four].”
