Jamie Carragher sends message to Man United boss Jose Mourinho
Jamie Carragher dismisses Jose Mourinho's complaints about the Manchester United fixture list
Jamie Carragher has told Jose Mourinho that Manchester United’s busy end to the season is normal and shows that they are performing well.
The Red Devils had nine fixtures in April and are set for another busy month as they chase a top-four finish as well as Europa League glory.
Mourinho has often pointed to the fact that his team are facing a gruelling run of games in recent weeks.
However, former Liverpool star Carragher feels that the Portuguese coach cannot have much to complain about at this stage of the season.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “At Manchester United you have players who are used to playing that amount of games.
“I think seven or eight teams in Europe have played nine games in April. If you’re a Manchester United manager you want to play nine games in April because it shows you’re performing, you’re still in competitions, you’re still going for things.
“I don’t see anything out of the ordinary there in the number of games played. It shows you’re successful, and if United could play 63, 64 games this season, last year they played 59. That’s not a massive difference.”
Mourinho is currently preparing his Manchester United side for their trip to Spain to take on Celta Vigo in the first leg of their semi-final away clash in the Europa League.
The Red Devils will then take on Arsenal in their crunch Premier League clash at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
