Juan Mata opens up about Man United positives despite Arsenal defeat
The Manchester United midfielder was pleased to see Axel Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay make their debuts at Arsenal
Juan Mata felt that the performances of Axel Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay was a real positive for Manchester United in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
The 19-year-old defender was selected at right-back at the Emirates Stadium as the Manchester United starlet came up against Arsenal’s star player Alexis Sanchez.
Tuanzebe completed 90 minutes of the Premier League clash as goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck sealed three points for the north London side.
McTominay was an 85th-minute replacement for Mata at the Emirates Stadium after the Spanish forward’s surprise return from injury earlier this month.
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and are facing an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish.
However, Mata preferred to look at the positive aspect of their 2-0 loss to Arsenal which was the debuts of Tuanzebe and McTominay at The Emirates.
“Another positive aspect of the game was the debut of both McTominay and Tuanzebe, a sign that the Academy is doing a good job; I’m really happy for them,” Mata told his blog One Hour Behind.
“I think the game was more or less even in the first half, with both teams creating chances, but they were lucky with the first goal soon after the break, and with the second one only a few minutes afterwards things turned quite complicated for us…”
Manchester United will host Celta Vigo in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final at Old Trafford following Marcus Rashford’s winner last week.
