Jamie Carragher sends message to Man United fans about Marcus Rashford
Jamie Carragher heaps praise on Marcus Rashford after his winner for Manchester United against Celta Vigo
Jamie Carragher has lavished praise on Marcus Rashford after his brilliant free-kick earned Manchester United a 1-0 win at Celta Vigo last week.
The 19-year-old made the difference as he stepped up in the 67th minute and curled home a delightful strike to hand Jose Mourinho’s men a vital away goal in the Europa League semi-final first leg.
Rashford has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for Manchester United in recent weeks and the teenager appears to have earned the trust of Mourinho at Old Trafford.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher was hugely impressed by the confidence shown by Rashford as he stepped up and scored the winner last Thursday.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “The goal was magnificent, the latest indication that Manchester United have a special talent on their hands.
“But it wasn’t the precision of the strike, the quality of the connection or the accuracy of the placement that impressed me most about Marcus Rashford’s free-kick against Celta Vigo. It was the fact he stepped up to take it in the first place.
“There were others on the field who looked more natural takers, such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and even Daley Blind. But Rashford, at just 19 years old, was in complete control of the situation and the confidence he has in his ability was demonstrated in its execution.”
Rashford will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action with a crunch clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
Mourinho’s men then host Celta Vigo in the return leg at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
