Jose Mourinho will sell three Man United stars this summer, claims pundit
Chris Sutton believes that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is likely to sell Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw this summer
Jose Mourinho has indicated that he wants to sell Manchester United trio Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw this summer, according to Chris Sutton.
The Portuguese coach has appeared to criticise the desire of the trio to return from injuries in recent weeks as Manchester United’s season reaches its conclusion.
Mourinho has called out some of his players in recent days despite Shaw being ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury.
Former Blackburn Rovers striker Sutton has not been impressed by Mourinho’s conduct and is tipping the trio to be sold by Manchester United this summer.
Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Mourinho is running the risk of turning the dressing room against him. To call them out for not playing through the pain barrier is deeply unfair.
“Managers I have played under would say things in the dressing room but back you in public. Mourinho just shoots from the hip. I think further down the line that leads to trouble.
“Having said that, in my opinion, what he is saying to the Manchester United board is, ‘I don’t want these players at the club. I need to replace them’. He is not daft – he knows what he is saying.”
Manchester United are currently fifth in the Premier League table as they look to claw their way back into the top four before the season is out.
The Red Devils, who finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season, take on Arsenal at The Emirates in Sunday’s Premier League showdown.
