The former Man United defender says Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a huge impact on the Man United side
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has carried Manchester United throughtout the 2016-17 season, Gary Neville has claimed.
The Red Devils have endured a mixed first campaign under Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese coach was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in May.
Mourinho signed Ibrahimovic in a free transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, while Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba completed moves in deals worth around 150m.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton at Wembley, with Ibrahimovic scoring either side of half-time to help Mourinho secure his first trophy.
Ibrahimovic has netted 17 times in 28 games in the Premier League this season, while the former Sweden international has scored five goals in 10 appearances in Europa League.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football about Manchester United striker Ibrahimovic, Neville said:
“He has had a huge impact on Man United. He carried Man United in the EFL Cup final.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and will finish outside the top four for the second successive season.
The Red Devils will take on Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday 24 May.
