Michael Owen explains the difference between Man United striker and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Manchester United legend backs Marcus Rashford to score plenty of goals for the Red Devils
Michael Owen believes Marcus Rashford will score more goals than Zlatan Ibrahimnovic in the Manchester United side.
The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against Celta Vigo on Thursday night thanks to Marcus Rashford’s free-kick in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.
Rashford has been thriving in the Manchester United side in a centre-forward role in the absence of leading goal-scorer Ibrahimovic.
The 35-year-old scored 28 times in 46 games in all competitions before Ibrahimovic suffered a season-ending knee injury in a 2-1 extra-time win against Anderlecht last month.
Rashford, on the other hand, has only netted 12 goals and made two assists in 48 games across five competitions in his first season under Jose Mourinho.
Speaking to BT Sport about the difference between Ibrahimovic and Rashford, former Manchester United striker Owen said:
“I think if you asked his team-mates they’d probably prefer to play with Rashford up front because he just gives them options.
“Zlatan will still probably score a few more goals than Rashford if they both started every week but I think the team would score a lot more with Rashford. I think Rashford is here to stay.”
Rashford broke into the Manchester United side under Louis van Gaal last term after the centre-forward scored eight times in 18 games in all competitions.
The Red Devils finished in fifth place in the table last term.
