Jose Mourinho sends message to Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of Man United clash
Jose Mourinho is hoping that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be fit enough to travel to the Europa League final should Manchester United make it
Jose Mourinho has told Zlatan Ibrahimovic that he is hoping the Swedish striker will be present in Sweden to lift the Europa League trophy if the Red Devils win the tournament this season.
The Swedish striker has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury during the win over Anderlecht last month.
The 35-year-old has undergone surgery to correct the problem and is now expected to embark on a lengthy recovery process.
The injury means that Ibrahimovic could potentially miss out on the chance to lift the Europa League trophy in his native homeland, with the final set to be played in Stockholm later this month.
However, Mourinho is hoping that Ibrahimovic will be well enough to travel to Sweden with his squad should they reach the Europa League final.
Speaking in an interview with beINsports, Mourinho said: “I hope we get to the final and I hope he can get to go to his stadium.
“I hope he can go with the captain to collect the cup.”
Manchester United take on Celta Vigo in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final clash in Spain on Thursday night.
