David Provan says Manchester United should do what they can to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the club
David Provan has told Manchester United to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic a new one-year contract at the club.
The Swedish striker has earned plenty of praise for his performances for the Red Devils this season since joining Manchester United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
Ibrahimovic is Manchester United’s top scorer this season and the Red Devils have the option to extend his contract for a further year until the end of next season.
Doubt has been cast on the 35-year-old’s future after he suffered a season-ending knee injury last month and required surgery.
However, Provan feels that Manchester United would be wise to offer Ibrahimovic a new deal and keep him at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Provan said: “Manchester United would want to keep him. He has had a sensational season.
“His relationship with the manager appears to be good.
“I wouldn’t see any reason why he would leave unless he fancies a lifestyle transfer. Maybe he fancies China or the USA.
“He doesn’t need the money. He may fancy getting the sun on his back a little bit more rather than the rigours of the Premier League in England.”
Manchester United are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash with Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as they look to bounce back from their 1-1 draw with Swansea last weekend.
