Man United urged to sign 26-year-old striker to partner Marcus Rashford
Paul Merson believes Antoine Griezmann would be a good strike partner for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford would thrive in the Manchester United starting line-up alongside Antoine Griezmann, according to Paul Merson.
The England striker scored a sensational winner in Manchester United’s 1-0 win against La Liga side Celta Vigo in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final in Spain on Thursday night.
Rashford has now scored in successive Europa League games to help Jose Mourinho’s side close in on a second trophy in the Portuguese coach’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann endured a disappointing week, though, after a resounding 3-0 loss to bitter rivals Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-four clash at The Bernabeu.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move to sign Griezmann this summer as Mourinho looks to overhaul the Red Devils squad ahead of an anticipated return to the Champions League.
Writing in his Daily Star column about a potential partnership between Griezmann and Rashford, Merson said:
“Rashford has the pace to scare defenders and stretch the game. Rashford has got it all. He’s quick, fearless, scores goals and has great movement.
“He needs to play more games, though. Imagine him playing with Antoine Griezmann, if United manage to sign the Frenchman in the summer. That would be some partnership.”
Manchester United take on Arsenal in the Premier League at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
