Guillem Balague admits he can’t fathom why David De Gea would want to swap Manchester United for Real Madrid this summer.

The Red Devils are reportedly facing a battle to keep their number one goalkeeper beyond the summer transfer window amid interest from Real Madrid.

The Spain international has been regularly linked with a move to sign De Gea over the past few seasons but a transfer has never materialised.

Los Blancos almost signed De Gea in the 2015 summer transfer window before the deal fell through on deadline day in Spain due to an issue with the paperwork.

However, Real Madrid are thought to be ready to test Manchester United’s resolve this summer as Zinedine Zidane looks to sign De Gea as Keylor Navas’ replacement.

Speaking to Sky Sports about the transfer rumours surrounding De Gea and his future at Manchester United, Balague said:

“I don’t understand why David de Gea would want to join Real Madrid, I really don’t.”
