Rio Ferdinand would rather Manchester United keep David De Gea rather than sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The Slovenia international has produced a series of impressive performances to help los Rojiblancos reach the Champions League semi-finals.

However, the shot stopper’s heroics were not good enough to help Atletico overturn a first-leg deficit after losing 4-2 to Real Madrid on aggregate.

Manchester United number one De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The Spain international has been a long-term target for the Champions League finalists despite signing a new long-term deal with Manchester United in 2015.

Oblak has been touted as a potential replacement for De Gea should a return to the Spanish capital materialise at the end of the season.

Asked during BT Sport’s coverage whether De Gea could move to Real Madrid and Oblak complete a switch to Atletico Madrid, Ferdinand simply said: “I hope not.”
