Jose Mourinho urged to make Man United summer signing
Tony Cottee believes Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann would be a good signing for Manchester United this summer
Antoine Griezmann would be a great signing for Manchester United in the summer, according to Tony Cottee.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils in the summer transfer window after relentless speculation throughout the 2016-17 campaign.
Manchester United have struggled in front of goal this season despite summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring 28 goals in all competitions in his first season at Old Trafford.
Griezmann is Atletico’s leading goal-scorer in the 2016-17 season after a promising return of 26 goals in 52 games in La Liga, Cope del Rey and the Champions League this term.
Former Everton and West Ham striker Cottee believes Griezmann would be a good signing for the 20-time English champions in the summer as Mourinho looks to overhaul his squad.
“They’ve had the most successful manager in British football (Sir Alex Ferguson), they then had the three seasons afterwards,” Cottee told Sky Sports.
“They’ve now got one of the top managers in the world. It’s important to give him the time, they’ve certainly given him the money with the transfers, he has brought in some big-name players.
“He will bring in some more. I would love to see Griezmann at the football club, we’d all love to see him in English football. He would be a great signing.”
Griezmann has scored 82 goals in 157 appearances in all competitions during three seasons at los Rojiblancos.
Manchester United will take on Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final at Stockholm on Wednesday night.
