Jose Mourinho is certain that Manchester United will be able to challenge for the Premier League title next season – if they make the right summer transfers.

It has been something of a disappointing campaign for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season following Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford last summer.

The Red Devils have struggled to produce consistent form in the Premier League and they are currently sixth in the table heading into the final round of games.

Manchester United have the chance to secure Champions League qualification for next season when the Red Devils take on Ajax in the Europa League final next week.

But despite the Red Devils’ disappointing league campaign this term, Mourinho has moved to reassure Manchester United fans that the Red Devils will be able to challenge next season.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: “This season we are not close to winning the league. There are clubs with more stability than us, better squads, more time to work.

“I cannot say that but I’m pretty sure that from a mental and a tactical point of view, we have had a very good evolution.

“If, in the next transfer window, we manage to be successful, I think we can [challenge for the title].”
