Dimitar Berbatov: What I think about reported Man United target Kylian Mbappe
The former Manchester United striker admits he wasn't aware of Kylian Mbappe during his spell at AS Monaco
Dimitar Berbatov has talked up Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe amid reports linking the France star with a move to Manchester United.
Mbappe scored a consolation goal for Monaco in Turin on Tuesday night as the Ligue 1 leaders lost 2-1 to Juventus in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.
The 18-year-old striker finished his first Champions League campaign with a return of six goals in nine games in Europe’s premier club competition.
The newly-capped France international has also scored 14 goals in 25 games in Ligue 1 for Berbatov’s former club Monaco in an outstanding breakthrough campaign.
Another of the Bulgarian’s former employers, Manchester United, have been linked with a big-money move to sign the Monaco teenager at the end of the season.
Speaking to BT Sport about Mbappe’s potential and whether he was aware of the teenager’s talent during his time at Monaco, Berbatov said:
“Obviously now Mbappe is the difference.
“When I was there he wasn’t in the first team, he was in the second team or probably some junior team.
“You have Bernardo Silva, Bakayoko, you have Fabinho.
“Players who can hurt you, are a bit more defensive if you want, but they are good on the ball as well.
“At the front you have Falcao, which I’m very happy that he’s scoring goals for fun.”
Manchester United signed France star Paul Pogba in a world-record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus last summer.
