Gary Neville opens up about reported Man United target: He’s a great player
The Manchester United legend says Michael Keane is everything you want in a football player
Gary Neville insists reported Manchester United target Michael Keane has everything a manager would want in a football player.
The Red Devils have struggled with defensive problems throughout the 2016-17 season after Phil Jones and Chris Smalling struggled to remain fit.
Manchester United signed Eric Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga outfit Villarreal in the summer and Jose Mourinho has relied heavily on the African defender.
The 20-time English champions have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign Keane from promoted side Burnley in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Keane moved to the Clarets in 2014 after Mourinho’s predecessor deemed the England international surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Liverpool have also been linked with a deal to sign the 24-year-old centre-half in the summer transfer window.
Speaking to Monday Night Football about Keane and his progress in recent seasons, former Manchester United defender Neville said:
“He’s still young. To make his England debut is a great achievement. He’s a great type, a great lad. He will be the type that’s a student.
“He will watch videos of himself in the week, he will want feedback, he will look after himself, he will be professional. Everything you want from a football player.”
Manchester United were 1-0 winners against La Liga side Celta Vigo in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.
