Mauricio Pochettino admits it is “fantastic” for Tottenham to finish above Arsenal this season – but insists their focus is on winning the title.

Spurs dealt another blow to Arsenal’s top-four hopes on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the Gunners at White Hart Lane.

The win kept Tottenham in the race for the title, leaving them four points behind Chelsea with four points to go.

Arsenal, however, now face a serious uphill struggle in trying to qualify for next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish.

The result also ensured that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal in the table for the first time in 22 years.

But although Pochettino was delighted by Sunday’s win, he insists that his only focus is on helping his side lift the Premier League trophy.

Pochettino told Sky Sports: “To be above Arsenal for the first time in 22 years is fantastic for our fans. it is fantastic for us too, but we want to win the title.”

He added: “I can understand our fans being excited about finishing above Arsenal, but I don’t feel the same because for me it is about trying to win the title.

“It is so important now to try and win trophies, that is our aim. I think still we are in the race. It’s true that it will be difficult but we will see what happens.”
