Jamie Carragher makes claim about Tottenham and Chelsea
Jamie Carragher says Tottenham have been unlucky to come up against Chelsea and Leicester in the title race
Jamie Carragher believes that Tottenham have been “unlucky” to have come up against Chelsea in the title race this season – because the Blues have had no European football.
Tottenham have been the Premier League’s standout team in recent weeks and have won nine of their last 10 games to keep the pressure on the Blues in the race for the top-flight title.
However, Chelsea are still the favourites to win the crown and are four points clear of Spurs heading into the final four games of the season.
Tottenham came up short last season when they ended up being beaten to the title by Leicester City.
And former Liverpool star Carragher feels that the Lilywhites have been unlucky in terms of the title competition they have faced in the last two seasons.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “Where I think they’ve been really unlucky is that Leicester won the league. We all loved it, but it was a freak and a one-off.
“You don’t see that happen – and it was a team not playing in Europe.
“They are now up against a Chelsea team who had no Europe. How often do Chelsea not play in Europe? It doesn’t happen.”
Tottenham return to Premier League action on Friday night with a crunch clash against West Ham United at the London Stadium, before Chelsea host Middlesbrough on Monday night.
