Pundit: Tottenham can’t lose this key man
Garth Crooks says Mauricio Pochettino is vital to Tottenham Hotspur following their brilliant form
Tottenham Hotspur must keep Mauricio Pochettino at all costs in the summer, according to Garth Crooks.
Spurs appointed Pochettino as their new manager in 2014 after the Lilywhites sacked Tim Sherwood following a disappointing 2013-14 season.
The former Argentina defender has transformed Tottenham into one of the most-exciting teams in the Premier League over the past 24 months.
Dele Alli and Harry Kane have taken a lot of the plaudits for Tottenham’s excellent results in the English top flight.
Indeed, the England duo scored in Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Arsenal in the north London derby at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his BBC Sport column about whether Tottenham can keep hold of their key men beyond the summer, Crooks highlighted Pochettino’s importance to Spurs.
“Above all, Spurs must not lose their most important person – manager Mauricio Pochettino. He stays and the team stays together. He goes and Spurs will unravel,” Crooks said.
Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and four points behind leaders Chelsea.
The Lilywhites haven’t won the top-flight crown since 1961 but are on course to at least finish in second place this term.
