Ian Wright offers advice to Ross Barkley, Tottenham fans won’t be happy
Ian Wright warns Ross Barkley about making a big-money move this summer amid Spurs interest
Ian Wright has urged Ross Barkley to resist the temptation to leave Everton in the summer transfer window.
The England international has been linked with a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2016-17 season.
Barkley has endured a mixed first season under Ronald Koeman after the former Dutch defender replaced Roberto Martinez last summer.
The Everton midfielder has scored five goals and has made eight assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League this term.
Tottenham were Chelsea’s closest challengers for the Premier League title before a 1-0 loss at West Ham United brought to an end their title bid.
Spurs have been linked with a big-money move for Barkley in the summer transfer window as Mauricio Pochettino looks to improve his midfield options.
But former Arsenal striker Wright isn’t certain that a move to Tottenham would benefit Barkley.
“If he does go, he’s going to go somewhere for a lot of money. If he goes somewhere they’re going to want to see it on a more consistent basis,” Wright told Match Of The Day.
“I don’t know what’s happening with the off the field stuff, in respect of Liverpool. The fact is I’d probably stay there and try to start to get games by the scruff of the neck, control games and be more consistent.”
Barkley established himself as one of the Premier League’s most-exciting talents under Martinez.
However, the Everton starlet has failed to kick on and establish himself as a top player in the division.
