Matt Le Tissier predicts where Arsenal, Liverpool will finish
Matt Le Tissier gives his take on how a gripping race for the top four is shaping up in the Premier League
Matt Le Tissier believes that Arsenal have a slim chance of catching Liverpool in the race for a top-four finish before the season is out.
The Gunners have kept alive their faint hopes of finishing in the top four this season with back to back wins over Manchester United and Southampton.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have been in stuttering form in recent weeks and were held to a goalless draw by Southampton at Anfield last weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s men still have their fate in their own hands, however, as they will secure a top-four finish if they win their remaining two games against West Ham and Middlesbrough.
However, Arsenal can pile further pressure on the Reds by beating Stoke City in the Premier League at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday evening to move to within a point of the Reds.
And former Southampton star Le Tissier reckons Arsenal could overtake Liverpool before the season is over – but says Klopp’s side are in the driving seat.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Le Tissier said: “You wouldn’t put it past them [Arsenal finishing in the top four] given Arsene Wenger’s record.
“It’s difficult to see Liverpool or Man City dropping points. You’d expect Arsenal to win their remaining fixtures. If they do, one slip up by the other two, Arsenal will finish in the top four again. It is possible but at this point it is improbable.”
