Jamie Redknapp sends message to Liverpool fans about Philippe Coutinho
Jamie Redknapp is hoping to see Philippe Coutinho make a return to the Champions League with Liverpool next season
Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Philippe Coutinho will be “back where he belongs” if Liverpool qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Brazilian attacker has been one of Liverpool’s top performing players this season and was once again in fine form as he helped the Reds beat West Ham United 4-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Liverpool will secure a top-four finish and a place in next season’s Champions League if they beat Middlesbrough in their final game of the season at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
It would mark a return to the Champions League for Liverpool and Coutinho after the Reds missed out last season following their eighth-placed finish.
And Redknapp is very much hoping to see Coutinho back on Europe’s biggest stage with the Reds next season.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “When I first saw Philippe Coutinho’s magic it was in the Champions League at Inter Milan.
“If Liverpool clear their final hurdle against Middlesbrough on Sunday, Coutinho will be back where he belongs on the European stage.
“It won’t be easy against Boro. Liverpool have dropped points against Crystal Palace and Southampton in recent weeks but if Coutinho shines as he did at West Ham on Sunday, we can look forward to him lighting up the Champions League again.”
Coutinho has scored 12 goals and made seven assists in 30 Premier League games for Liverpool this season.
