Ian Wright is backing Liverpool to beat Middlesbrough and secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
The Reds can finish in the top four ahead of the retired striker’s former club Arsenal if Liverpool beat Middlesbrough at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool bolstered their top-four prospects with a 4-0 win against West Ham United thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi.
The Merseyside outfit haven’t qualified for the Champions League since Liverpool finished in second place in 2013-14.
Liverpool have failed to win their last three Premier League games following two stalemates and a defeat to give Arsenal hope of beating their rivals to fourth place.
Speaking to the Sun Goals podcast about Liverpool’s home clash against Boro, former Arsenal striker Wright backed the Reds to get the job done against the relegated side.
“It’s the kind of team that Liverpool have struggled to get past. However, I think they will do it,” Wright said.
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
