Jurgen Klopp sends message to Liverpool fans ahead of Southampton clash
The Liverpool manager wants the Reds fans to play their part against Southampton at Anfield on Sunday
Jurgen Klopp has urged the Liverpool fans and players to utilise the positive pressure to their advantage when Southampton make the trip to Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds are looking to cement a top-four finish and a much-anticipated return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of Manchester United with three games to go in the Merseyside outfit’s season.
Klopp’s side secured a third straight top-flight win on the road thanks to a 1-0 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night thanks to Emre Can’s stunning winner.
Liverpool will welcome Southampton to Anfield on Sunday in search of a first win against the Saints at the fourth attempt in all competitions in the 2016-17 season.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference about Liverpool’s home clash against the EFL Cup runners-up, Klopp had a message for the club’s fans and players.
“There is positive pressure. We can go for something. We know about the quality of the opponent. I like watching Southampton,” Klopp said.
“Our plan for Sunday is to use Anfield. For some it’s a nervy situation, but we need to be brave, enjoy the game and use the crowd. I understand absolutely that people are getting nervous but Anfield is always more than good. What we’re going for is for all of us.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place last term.
