Ian Wright is backing Liverpool to edge to victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds will host Southampton looking to secure three points to edge them a step closer to wrapping up a top-four finish.

Liverpool returned to winning ways on Monday night after Emre Can’s stunning overhead kick secured three points in a 1-0 win at Watford.

The Merseyside club beat Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion on the road before a surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in their last home game.

Liverpool haven’t beaten Southampton in three attempts in the EFL Cup and the Premier League in the 2016-17 season.

Former Arsenal striker Wright is tipping Liverpool to find a way to get past Southampton for the first time this term.

“I’m going to go for a home win. Liverpool can see the finishing line and these are the kind of games they have to win at home to get there,” Wright told The Sun Goals podcast.

Liverpool are four points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United in the race to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Klopp’s side are on course to improve on their eighth-place finish in the 2015-16 campaign.
