Jose Mourinho lavished praise on Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata following their impressive displays on their return from injury in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

The trio were restored to the starting line-up for the Premier League clash at The Emirates and all three put in solid performances in north London.

However, they were unable to prevent Manchester United from slipping to a 2-0 loss to Arsenal after second-half goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck sealed the points for Arsene Wenger’s men.

But despite the result, Mourinho was delighted with how the trio performed for the Red Devils at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mourinho said: “I think Jones, Smalling and Mata were amazing in the way they performed after seven weeks out.”

Manchester United now turn their attentions back to Europa League affairs and their crunch clash against Celta Vigo at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
