Jose Mourinho has revealed his delight at the commitment Juan Mata has shown to get back fit for Manchester United as soon as possible.

The Spanish midfielder was sidelined for eight games after requiring groin surgery but returned to the Red Devils squad for the clash with Swansea at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Mata has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United team this season despite his future being a source of speculation last summer following Mourinho’s appointment.

And in a season in which Mourinho has regularly hit out at some of his injured players for showing a lack of desire to play through the pain for his team, the Portuguese coach has stressed that he’s been delighted by Mata’s attitude.

Speaking to BT Sport before Sunday’s clash with Swansea, Mourinho said: “Mata is coming back and [showed me] a good effort to be ready as soon as possible.”

He added after the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford: “I prefer not to speak about Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. I prefer to speak about Juan Mata giving everything to be available. I am grateful for that.”
