Gary Neville: Jose Mourinho doesn’t trust these Man United players
Gary Neville believes that Jose Mourinho doesn't trust his defenders in the big games for Manchester United
Gary Neville has warned Jose Mourinho that he cannot continue to adopt defensive tactics in the big games at Manchester United next season.
The Portuguese coach has often set his team up with a defensive approach against the Premier League’s big sides and Neville described Mourinho as having put out a “back six” during the 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.
Manchester United have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League this season and are currently in fifth place in the table as they chase a top-four finish.
Former Red Devils defender Neville has warned Mourinho that he will have to change his approach in the big games next season and claims that he doesn’t trust his defenders.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Neville said: “My view on it is that at the moment is that it’s overly defensive.
“I’m not sure why they are in a back six – he probably doesn’t trust his defenders.
“In 12 months time they will have to shift it and be able to counter-attack from a deep position.”
Manchester United are currently gearing up for their crunch Europa League semi-final second-leg clash against Celta Vigo at Old Trafford on Thursday night, after having won the first leg 1-0 in Spain last week.
