Jose Mourinho told his Man United excuses are not valid
Mark Lawrenson says Manchester United have no excuses for their poor form in the Premier League this season
Mark Lawrenson has dismissed Jose Mourinho’s complaints about the size of his Manchester United squad this season.
The Red Devils booked their place in the Europa League final against Ajax on Thursday night thanks to their 2-1 aggregate win over Celta Vigo in the semi-finals.
Manchester United have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League all season, however, and Mourinho’s men are currently sixth in the table heading into this weekend’s round of games.
Mourinho has often pointed to his side’s congested fixture list and injury problems during the second half of the season.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson says that cannot be accepted as a valid excuse if the Red Devils do indeed miss out on a top-four finish.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “I have been saying for a while now that I don’t buy Jose Mourinho’s comments about the size or strength of his squad, and I don’t see United’s Europa League campaign as an excuse if they miss out on the top four.”
