Rio Ferdinand reacts to Marcus Rashford’s display for Man United v Celta Vigo
Rio Ferdinand was impressed by Marcus Rashford's brilliant free-kick in Manchester United's 1-0 win at Celta Vigo
Rio Ferdinand heaped praise on Marcus Rashford for his brilliant free-kick after the teenager fired Manchester United to a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Thursday night.
After a goalless first half in Spain, Rashford curled home a delightful set-piece in the 67th minute to wrap up a crucial victory and hand Jose Mourinho’s men an away goal heading into the return leg at Old Trafford next week.
Rashford has been in fine form in recent weeks but the 19-year-old limped off with a minor injury late on in the game on Thursday night.
It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for Manchester United’s trip to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
But Ferdinand was extremely impressed by Rashford’s free-kick on Thursday night.
Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “He got the free-kick, he stepped up and he took the responsibility.
“It’s a fantastic free-kick. The goalkeeper could maybe be questioned, but you’ve still got to put it in there and give yourself a chance – and he did that.”
Manchester United are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table heading into their clash with Arsenal at The Emirates this weekend.
