Man United to try and beat Chelsea to £85m signing – report
Manchester United want to sign Romelu Lukaku ahead of Chelsea this summer, according to reports
Manchester United are ready to try and beat Chelsea to the signing of Romelu Lukaku this summer by tabling an £85m bid for the Everton striker, according to reports.
The Daily Star is reporting that Jose Mourinho is keen to try and bring the forward to Old Trafford this summer as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.
Mourinho coached Lukaku at Chelsea but opted to sell the forward to Everton in the summer of 2014.
The same report claims that Mourinho has told Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to do whatever it takes to try and bring Lukaku to Old Trafford this summer.
The story also says that Manchester United are hopeful that an offer of a contract worth £230,000 a week will persuade the striker to move to Old Trafford ahead of former club Chelsea.
Mourinho is thought to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer as he prepares for his second season in charge at the club.
The Portuguese coach is likely to want to add some depth to his attack after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s season-ending knee injury cast doubt over the striker’s future at the club.
