The former Arsenal midfielder is backing Manchester United to ease to a narrow 3-2 win against Palace this weekend
Paul Merson believes Manchester United’s second string will ease to a narrow win against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils are preparing for the Europa League final in Stockholm next Wednesday as Manchester United take on impressive Eredivisie side Ajax.
The 20-time English champions have seen their Premier League form take an alarming dip in recent weeks after Jose Mourinho prioritised the Europa League.
Manchester United have failed to win their last five top-flight fixtures to leave the Red Devils in sixth place and off the pace in the top-four race.
Crystal Palace were 4-0 winners against Hull City last weekend and Sam Allardyce’s side have already secured their top-flight status for another season.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Manchester United’s clash against Palace at Old Trafford this coming weekend, former Arsenal midfielder Merson said:
“He will rest everybody this week and the next time they play, the last time they played together as a team would have been against Celta Vigo.
“I just think he has missed a trick. With this game, Palace are safe so it’s a nice game if you like.”
Manchester United won the EFL Cup final at Wembley back in February thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton courtesy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s winner.
