Michael Owen reacts to Marcus Rashford’s display in Man United’s 1-0 win at Celta Vigo
The former Manchester United striker was impressed with Marcus Rashford's performance in the Europa League semi-final
Michael Owen claimed that Manchester United look like a more potent side with Marcus Rashford up front after the striker’s winner at Celta Vigo.
The 19-year-old was handed a starting spot for the first leg of Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final in Spain on Thursday night.
The England international had chances to make the breakthrough in the first half before Rashford broke the deadlock in style in the 67th minute.
The teenager curled a sumptuous free-kick into the Celta Vigo net to give Manchester United the advantage in the last-four tie ahead of the return leg.
Speaking to BT Sport about Rashford’s performance in the Europa League clash, former Manchester United striker Owen was full of praise for the young centre-forward.
“I thought he had an all-round good game tonight,” said Owen.
“Even when he doesn’t score, he still affects the game – he creates chances for other people just because of the direct nature of his game. Manchester United look so much more potent when they’ve got pace up front.”
Rashford has now scored two goals in the Europa League this season after finding the net in Manchester United’s last two European fixtures.
The teenager scored eight times in 18 games in all competitions after the striker burst onto the scene last term.
