Paul Merson predicts where Arsenal, Liverpool will finish
The former Arsenal legend is tipping Arsene Wenger's side to overhaul Liverpool in the Premier League's top four
Paul Merson believes Arsenal will overhaul Liverpool in the race to secure a top-four finish.
The Gunners were 2-0 winners against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium following goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck.
Arsenal moved to within four points of Liverpool on Wednesday night thanks to the north London side’s 2-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s.
Arsene Wenger’s side have the chance to move to within a point of Liverpool if the FA Cup finalists beat Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men aren’t in action until Liverpool make the long trip to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about the top-four race, former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Liverpool will surrender their top-four spot.
“I think the team they’re going to chase is Liverpool, if I’m being honest. I expect Arsenal to chase them down,” Merson said.
Arsenal have never missed out on a top-four finish under Arsene Wenger since the 67-year-old was appointed as their manager in 1996.
The north London side will take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.
