Arsene Wenger has warned his Arsenal side that they are in for a stern test of their top-four credentials when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.

The north London side kept alive their faint hopes of Champions League qualification with a 2-0 win over Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

That win left Arsenal in sixth place in the Premier League table with four games left to play this season.

Next up for Wenger’s side is a tricky clash against the Saints at St Mary’s in midweek.

And Wenger admits that Arsenal will have to win that game if they want to stand any chance of finishing in the top four this season.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at The Emirates on Sunday, Wenger said: “We have a big game on Wednesday.

“Southampton are a good team. Collectively they play well.

“They keep possession of the ball and we need to recover and focus to win on Wednesday.

“We still have a chance mathematically and we need some help as well from teams around us.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and without a trophy last season.

The Gunners could still win the FA Cup this term, when they take on Chelsea at Wembley in the final later this month.
