Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Southampton v Arsenal
The Arsenal legend is backing the Gunners to ease to a comfortable win against Southampton on Wednesday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Arsenal to ease to a comfortable win against Southampton.
The Gunners were impressive 2-0 winners against bitter rivals Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck scored second-half goals to secure three points for the FA Cup finalists despite their poor run of form.
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and two points behind Manchester United in the race to secure a top-four finish.
Southampton, on the other hand, battled to a goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his Sky Sports column ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Southampton, Nicholas predicted that Arsenal will ease to a 2-0 win against the Saints.
“I think the pressure is off in terms of the top four and we know that suits this Arsenal team, so I’m expecting them to win this, but even if they do I still won’t be expecting them to qualify for the Champions League,” Nicholas said.
Arsenal will take on Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
The Gunners are facing the prospect of finishing outside of the top four for the first time under Arsene Wenger.
