Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to beat Stoke City on Saturday despite their poor record at Britannia Stadium.

The Gunners looked to be out of the race to secure a top-four finish following a disappointing run of results in the Premier League.

However, Arsenal gave their slim hopes of securing a Champions League spot a much-needed boost with a 2-0 win against Manchester United at The Emirates last weekend.

The north London side followed up that result with a 2-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday night courtesy of goals from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.

Arsene Wenger’s side start the Premier League weekend four points adrift of Liverpool in third place as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to stumble over the line.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about the Premier League clash at Britannia Stadium, Merson said:

“I expect Arsenal to win this game.

“I don’t normally go against Stoke at home but I watched them at Bournemouth and I think if Arsenal get going it’s a nice game. It’s not like the old days.

“I think it will be an open, good game and I expect Arsenal to win.”
