Paul Merson states his prediction for West Ham v Tottenham
The former Arsenal legend is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat West Ham in the Premier League
Paul Merson is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a comfortable 3-0 win against West Ham on Friday night.
The Lilywhites will make the short trip across the English capital to take on Slaven Bilic’s Hammers side at the London Stadium.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men were 2-0 winners against bitter rivals Arsenal in the north London derby at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Tottenham have won their last nine Premier League games to leave Pochettino’s side four points behind current leaders Chelsea.
The Hammers, meanwhile, have been struggling under Bilic amid talk that the former Croatian defender could be sacked at the end of the season.
Writing in his Sky Sports column about the London derby on Friday night, Merson backed Tottenham to ease to a comfortable win against West Ham.
“Tottenham can put severe pressure on Chelsea with victory. I know Chelsea have some nice fixtures coming up but if Spurs can move to within one point of the league leaders, it will be a lot different,” Merson said.
“We’ve seen it too many times in football before, you just never know what might happen. Tottenham are playing so well at the moment and I can’t see anything three points for Pochettino’s side.”
Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last term behind champions Leicester City and runners-up Arsenal.
Spurs signed five players in the summer transfer window last season as Pochettino looked to transform his squad into title winners.
