Alexandre Lacazette reveals how Francis Coquelin helped to play a part in his move to Arsenal this week
Alexandre Lacazette has revealed that Francis Coquelin helped to convince him that a move to Arsenal was the right decision for him.
The France international became the north London club’s second signing of the summer on Wednesday after he finally completed his move to The Emirates.
Lacazette had been regularly linked with a move to Arsenal over the last few weeks seasons and Gunners fans will have been delighted to see their club finally get their man this week.
Now, the 26-year-old has lifted the lid on how some conversations with Arsenal midfielder Coquelin helped to convince him that a move to The Emirates was a good choice for him.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Lacazette said: “Francis and I kept in touch after that [an U19 tournament with France back in 2010].
“We’ve had a lot of contact over the last few years and even more over the last few weeks, of course, since it became increasingly likely that I would come to Arsenal.
“He has said only good things about Arsenal, which is not surprising because he wanted me to join the club. Even without that I still really wanted to come here.
“He stressed that it was a great club located in a fantastic city. He said I would not regret my decision to move here because of the people I’d be working with and, of course, the fans.”
Lacazette will have to make do without Champions League football in his first season at Arsenal after the Gunners ended up fifth in the Premier League table last term.
However, Arsene Wenger’s men did end the season on a high when they beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup at Wembley back in May.
