Arsenal boss Wenger: I can’t tell you more about my secret talks with 28-year-old
Arsene Wenger refuses to give much away about his recent conversations with Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez via text message
Arsene Wenger has refused to reveal the details of his recent conversation with Alexis Sanchez as the forward’s Arsenal future continues to be a relentless source of speculation.
The 28-year-old has been a major talking point this summer because he has entered into the final 12 months of his contract and Arsenal are yet to tie him down to a new deal.
The Chile international is due to report back to Arsenal for pre-season training on Tuesday after being given extended leave due to a bout of flu.
Wenger revealed that he has been in contact with Sanchez via text message over the last few days as the forward prepares to return to the club.
However, the Arsenal boss has refused to reveal the details about his conversations with the former Barcelona star, who has been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Speaking at his news conference at The Emirates on Saturday, Wenger said: “I think the players who want a new contract have to respect their contract.
“For a manager it’s a bit different, it concerns. What is the future of the club, what’s going on, what’s happening, it has great uncertainty. For the player it’s different.
“I can’t reveal to you what he says, I cannot reveal what is a secret conversation. We speak in English. He’s flying back as soon as he’s in a position to fly back – he has the flu. That’s normally four or five days.”
Arsenal will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next season after finishing fifth in the table last term.
