Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi will return to Arsenal training on Sunday.

The Gunners star has been given an extended break this summer after Sanchez helped Chile to reach the final of the Confederations Cup in Russia.

Sanchez has failed to agree a contract extension with Arsenal despite having less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal star has been linked with a potential move to their Premier League title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City in recent months.

Wenger has already stated that it is his belief Sanchez won’t leave the north London club this summer despite the transfer speculation.

Speaking ahead of the Emirates Cup this weekend, Wenger confirmed Mustafi and Sanchez will return to training on Sunday ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League season.

“Alexis and Mustafi, their first training session will be on Sunday, the day we play against Sevilla,” Wenger said in quotes distributed to the media by Arsenal.

“They are practising on the day, yes. First of all you make a really good check up of where they are, how much they have worked during their break.

“After, once you know where you stand, they need an adjusted programme and to see how quickly you can fit them in again. Of course it depends as well on what is the need in the squad, what is their quality.

“All of these things together make your decision. Do you put them on the bench when they are not ready [to start]? It is easier to put a striker on the bench than a defender, sometimes. Because in a short period they can make an impact. We’ll see.”

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.

The Gunners managed to end the season on a high note after a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
